Version 1.16.27 is the buggiest of the two versions of my D2X-XL history! Here is my list of bugs:
Music - Must turn down to 0 in-game on options menu, then turn back up, and (if I remember right), doing this won't correct the bug for the next level!
Heavy Fighter:
1. My main issue is with the converter here. It goes until a point, then always says I have max
shields! I didn't know 78\200 (or is it 78\300) was maximum!
2. The E-Centers charge me up to 120!

If you see bugs and want them fixed, it works best to report them via the D2X-XL bug tracker on SourceForge (https://sourceforge.net/p/d2x-xl/bugs/). Please search for the issue first in case it's already been reported - common problems like with the music often have been. Sometimes the issue may be described on the project forums (http://www.descent2.de/forum/index.php) and there is a workaround, that's usually the easiest place to find it.
Also, be advised that the project maintainer has limited time to work on D2X-XL currently; problems you encounter may not necessarily be resolved as quickly as you might like.

And make sure before you report some gameplay behaviour that you think is unintended, that it's actually unintended. D2X-XL isn't meant to play exactly like vanilla Descent. The heavy fighter gets more shields and energy for instance.
And if you didn't know the max shields in Descent was 200, you should do some serious research on Descent itself before you report anything as a bug.

On my side 1.16.27 is pretty stable.
The Heavy Fighter 'issues' are no bugs, as Sirius said, those are part of the design to make it 'Heavy' (more Shields, Energy, etc.)
And yeah, 200 is usually the max shields for the Standard ship on all Descent versions, and on D2X-XL, I think the Heavy one supports up to 220 and the Light one just up to 180.
The Music bug you said, may be related to some general Sound issues. Make sure you have the Hi-res sound pack installed for D2X-XL and that the d2x.ini file has the -midifix 1 line, that usually fixes most of the sound/music issues.
EDIT: After seeing another post of you here on the DBB, I would say Krom is right. Never mix D2X-XL and Rebirth on the same installation folder. Make different installation folders for each port, and you will have much less issues for sure.
