It's more than just a 11k version of the same sound. The sound is completely different, which is a rather unique situation when you explore the sound files. As for 11k, keep in mind that the D1 robot sounds were also upscaled, as 22k versions of these sounds simply didn't exist at the time. But sure...

Another small tweak made (which makes this now v1.1): shortened the total animation time of door11 from 1.6s to 1s. It felt awfully slow and choppy with its original speed, which seemed more like a mistake by the devs than a deliberate choice anyway. This change will also be made in the D2 version.

Not sure what I would say specifically about each system, but I watched a YouTube review of D1 and D2 today and the guy said that D2 is less broken and fairer on the player than D1, thanks to the lack of drillers and the nerf to homing missile shooters. I suppose one could agree with this assessment...

Ok, so just to give a relevance bump here - otvdm is now a thing, and it lets you run any old software on 64 bit systems. Been using it for a long while now, but I still wish I had known about it sooner.
